Plainletter

Privacy policy · updated 20 October 2026
Short version: we don't collect any of your data. No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. What you put in Plainletter stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.

Where your data lives

Everything you add (scans, photos, notes, dates, records) is stored on your device. If you're signed in to iCloud, it's also synced through your private iCloud database so it appears on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple account; we can't see it.

Reading documents happens on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device text recognition and, on supported iPhones, Apple Intelligence's on-device model.

Optional cloud help (off unless you turn it on)

For very long or handwritten letters you can switch on "cloud help" in Settings. Only then, the text of the letter you choose is sent to Anthropic's Claude to be explained, and the answer comes back to your phone. Photos never leave your phone. The text isn't stored by us or used to train models. You can turn it off at any time.

What the app asks to use

Rule updates

To keep rates, deadlines and wording current, the app downloads a small public rules file from GitHub Pages (slimboi34.github.io). As with visiting any website, GitHub may see your IP address. No identifier or personal data is sent.

Purchases

Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details. Apple tells the app only whether you have an active purchase.

Deleting your data

Settings → "Delete all my data" removes everything from the app and from your iCloud copy. Deleting the app removes the on-device copy.

Children

The app isn't aimed at children and collects nothing from anyone.
